Born and raised in Alberta, Louis has practiced in civil litigation for most of his career. He has extensive civil trial experience, having conducted over 40 superior court trials as lead counsel, as well as numerous appeals and other proceedings. He has appeared in all levels of court in Alberta, and has appeared before the courts in Ontario, British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories. In the past dozen years, he has broadened his practice to include corporate and commercial law, as well as Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has spoken many times at legal and industry conferences on diverse topics.
Louis was honoured to be appointed Queen’s Counsel (now K.C.) in the province of Alberta in 2012. In 2021 he received his Qualified Arbitrator’s designation from the ADR Institute of Canada.
Louis has an active ADR practice as mediator, arbitrator and insurance umpire.

Community Involvement
Louis has been a long time contributor to his community. He is particularly proud of his contributions as Chairman of the Sign of Hope Campaign (2004) in support of Canada’s largest social services agency. He has sat on the boards of a seniors’ residence, a sporting organization, an educational institution as well as extensive volunteering in his faith community.
